March 30th at Fife Flyers - League

5

Final

2

Fife Flyers scored a couple of goals in quick succession early in the 2nd on either side of a Flames reply to take a 2 goal lead they would retain until extending with a late powerplay marker that completed their 5-2 win over the visitors.

Owen Griffiths set Flames in front less than 3 minutes in, but replies by Teemu Pulkkinen and Jonas Emmerdahl before and after the period’s halfway mark sent Flyers to break with a lead they would not lose the rest of the way.

Just 13 seconds into the middle set, the home team extended their advantage with a Troy Lajeunesse goal. A little over a minute later, Ryan Hughes pulled the visitors back to a goal off the pace, but an immediate reply seconds later re-stored the Flyers 2 goal lead thanks to Lucas Chiodo ahead of a 3rd period Colin Shirly marker on the powerplay that completed the evening.

Taz Burman was 29 for 34 on shots against Shane Owen who was 30 of 32.

“That was not the kind of game we were looking for from our guys when we were in a position lock up a playoff spot with a win, rather than securing it because of results in other games.” explained Paul Dixon.

“Fife is always a tough place to play and they have several very skilled players so we cannot be a sloppy as we were tonight in our own end.”

“I am glad we play again right away Sunday against Coventry because hopefully we can get a turnaround to a much sharper performance that stands a chance at taking a win.”
