Ryan Tait had the winner in the 52nd minute to break up a 2-2 tie before a pair of late empty netters put the score out of reach during a 5-2 win over the visiting Belfast Giants.
The teams traded goals in the opening set with Lewis Hook kicking off the Flames account on the powerplay at 6:53 and Ben Lake hitting back in the 11th minute to tie it up through one period.
The middle frame was scoreless nearly throughout but a Ryan Hughes marker 45 seconds from time sent the home team to break with a 2-1 lead.
Before the 3rd was 5 minutes old Giants had it level through Jeff Baum. However, Ryan Tait’s decider at 51:31 forced Giants to pull Tyler Beskorowany in their efforts to square it, but Steven McParland and Brett Ferguson inside the last minute guaranteed the outcome.
Eamon McAdam made 28 saves on 30 shots while Tyler Beskorowany was 24 for 27.
“We played a pretty solid game for a big win against an elite team,” said Paul Dixon.
“Bit of a roller coaster weekend after Saturday’s visit to Cardiff, but we are certainly very pleased with what every guy did tonight in response to that.”
“It is a great way to close the weekend and we can take a lot of positive energy into a full week of training.”
